MATULJICIOUS /MATULJIŠS/ BIKE&TASTE
The Matulji Tourist Board, under the patronage of the Croatian National Tourist Board and the Kvarner Tourist Board, and in cooperation with the companies Partenca (Matulji), successfully organizes cycling tours for both tourists and local residents under the name Matuljicious / Matuljišs / Bike & Taste. The tours take place in June, July, August, and September, offering participants a unique opportunity to explore the area’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and local gastronomy through interpretive cycling tours conducted in four languages – Croatian, English, Italian, and German.
Participants have the chance to taste premium products from local producers such as OPG Ružić, Kapić Winery, Kos Beekeeping, OPG Klaudia Dokozić, Suza Distillery, and Morčić Brewery. The tours are recreational and educational, adapted to different levels of physical fitness, and include rides through some of the most beautiful and hidden areas of the Municipality of Matulji.
1. The protected landscapes of Lisina and Zvonejske njivi – A ride through untouched forest areas and beautiful landscapes, commemorating the hard work of our ancestors (MTB).
2. In the footsteps of the Mlekarice– Trails following the routes of milkmaids and other women whose work left a mark on the history of Opatija and the surrounding region (MTB).
3. Tramontana – A road cycling route along the D8 state road, passing through many villages of the municipality and leading to the "Lipa Remembers” Memorial Centre (road cycling).
4. Every Night Has Its Power – A route through legends and beliefs about dark forces, accompanied by historical explanations (MTB).Ancient Fortifications – From Veli Brgud to the 3rd-century Pasjak fortress, and further to the northernmost village Brdce, with breathtaking views of the Kvarner Bay and Mount Velebit (MTB).
5. Along the Rapallo Border – Visiting remains of former Italian and Yugoslav border military posts and guardhouses (MTB).Hidden Gems – Cycling through the smallest villages of the municipality, from Škalnički to Zaluki, and further along old roads to Zvoneće and Krujci (MTB).
6. From Golopust to Sup Šija – An adrenaline route through the abandoned town Golopust and attractions below Mount Šija in the Žejane area, accompanied by stories about the rare local dialect (MTB / adrenaline).
These tours allow participants to experience Matulji through the eyes of local residents, discovering its rich history and cultural heritage with the guidance of licensed guides. The cycling tours, supported by technical assistance, have delighted participants and demonstrated the great potential of Matulji as a cycling destination.
