RESTAURANT STARA POŠTA
Restaurant Stara Pošta served as a post office and resting place for postal carriages on the Rijeka–Trieste–Ljubljana route until the second half of the 19th century. It is situated on the main road between two exits of the Rijeka bypass, Jurdani on one side and Rupa on the other. It is 10 km from Opatija and 5 km from the Slovenian border. This was a resting point for horses and a place where carriages were prepared for the ascent towards Slovenia or longer journeys towards Zagreb or Dalmatia. At the end of the 19th century (1851), Jožef Dekleva from Bitnje pri Premu (Slovenia) purchased the building from the Austrian post. He was the first owner to begin hospitality activities in the facility. From then until today, Restaurant Stara Pošta has been owned by the Dekleva family. The most famous part of the offer focuses on traditional homemade cuisine, inspired by the projects "From our grandmothers’ pans” and the "Road of homemade food.” Here you can find authentic homemade prosciutto and cheese, various traditional stews, homemade sausages and roasted meats with local cabbage and pork ribs.Throughout the year, various events successfully revive part of the old, almost forgotten hospitality traditions of this region, such as: "Feast of Dormice,” "Sausage Feast,” "Carnival,” "Krbunica,” and others.
